This article addresses an aspect of psychoanalytic practice related to the tools we use in clinical intervention, inviting reflection on their origins. It focuses on the dreams of both patient and analyst, and their usefulness within the therapeutic experience. The
paper reviews how dreams have been conceived after Freud and explores contributions from relational psychoanalysis and other authors who have offered new ways of understanding, working with, and clinically applying dreams. Through the personal
account of a dream involving a patient—revealing our shared humanity—it reflects on the complexity of psychoanalysis and the centrality of the relational experience as a driving force for new insights.
